*Fiver*

UFO investigator Thomas "Fiver" Murphy has been interested in the paranormal in one form or another for most of his life but began seriously studying the subject of UFOs in the late 1980s. While choosing not to affiliate with any of the many ground spotting saucer groups for personal reasons, he has read hundreds books and articles on the subject, screened hours of footage and documentaries, interviewed anyone who will talk to him ranging from eye witnesses to physicists and spent countless hours pouring over old records, files and microfiche in as many different libraries and archives as he could gain access to.

Fiver's approach to field investigation is a very practical one; talk to anyone involved but first hand information is always best, avoid any kind of agenda, don't believe or disbelieve anything but treat everything as data and share information freely.

Fiver is currently attached to the Southern Michigan Paranormal Investigators group and was recently featured in a Hillsdale Daily News article revisiting the infamous 1966 "Swamp Gas" UFO incidents.

*Nick Reiter*

was born in Tiffin, Ohio and has lived in the northwest corner of the state all his life. He married shortly after completing an engineering technology program at the local community college and went on to help raise three fine children. Professionally, Nick has spent the majority of his adult life working in the fields of electronics, vacuum technology, thin films and high temperature chemistry. From 1991 to 2003, he worked in the field of solar energy (photovoltaics) for First Solar LLC, of Perrysburg, Ohio, and held the title of Scientist. He currently holds the title of Staff Scientist for another solar energy development company in the Toledo, Ohio area, Solar Fields LLC. From 1997 to 2003, Nick was also the primary investigator for a small non-profit gravity research lab founded by local inventor and Ohio business leader, Dr. Harold McMaster.

Since his boyhood days, Nick was obsessed with the notions of outer space, UFOs, aliens, time travel, Bigfoot, and Atlantis. As years went on, he also added ghosts, psychic phenomena, and ancient archaeological mysteries to his bag of fascinations. However, throughout all of these early musings, a theme of uncovering the scientific basis behind these mysteries was predominant, and by extension he hoped to find deeper understandings of the universe and Mankind's relationship to it.

The day to day duties of work and family held the earlier obsessions at bay for a few years, however by 1987 enough spare time presented itself to allow Nick the luxury of re-claiming his "boy mad scientist" birthright. From 1987 to 1991, Nick conducted deep research on an amateur basis into the life energy discoveries of Wilhelm Reich, as well as dowsing, radionics, and Tesla Coil phenomena.

In 1991, the focus of Nick's amateur scientific research shifted into the study of the phenomenon known popularly as the UFO abduction experience. For the next five years, Nick explored some of the lesser known aspects of the abduction experience, such as ties to electromagnetic fields, paranormal connections, common factors in the lives of experiencers, and the influence of culture and archetype. Several papers dealing with the results of these explorations were published in non-peer reviewed journals such as The Bulletin of Anomalous Experience, Nexus, and Alternate Perceptions. Numerous other citations of Nick's abduction research may be found in published works by Linda Moulton Howe, Albert Budden, Martin Cannon, and others. Some of his analytical work on claimed UFO artifacts appeared on Art Bell's Coast to Coast show via Linda Howe. Since 1996, Nick has also worked closely with Nancy Talbott of BLT Research Inc. performing the role of materials analysis and scientific consultation for crop circle and UFO cases.

By 1996, the observations and knowledge gleaned from his years of work on the UFO abduction experience led Nick to suspect that there existed a vast crossover into what many would consider to be more classical paranormal phenomena and experiences. In October of 1996, Nick teamed up with Lori Schillig, or Alliance, Ohio and together they formed The Avalon Foundation, specializing in the deep examination of paranormal cases. Much of the work from this era may be found on the Avalon Foundation website: www.theavalonfoundation.org

From 1997 to 2003, Nick and Mrs. Schillig developed a number of unique approaches to understanding ghosts and personal psi in cases of haunted locations. They also compiled much of their mutual journey in a book finally published in late 2005, "The Bridges of Avalon: Science, Spirit, and the Quest for Unity" (iUniverse, Oct. 2005)

In 2003, Lori Schillig formally left paranormal investigation to focus on career and family. Nick maintained investigations into paranormal claims as well as other "New Science" areas, keeping The Avalon Foundation alive and active.

Since 2003, Nick has focused on gathering evidence for alternative models of unified paranormal phenomena. This includes special attention to paranormal cases involving occult influences, apparent non-human spiritual entities, and negative entity intrusion into human lives. He also has added amateur archeology and North American Native mysteries to his list of activities and interests.

Other recent activities of interest have included crop circle field investigation, working primarily with Nancy Talbott of BLT Research Inc. and occult crime study.

The Bridges of Avalon

Science, Spirit, and the Quest for Unity

Nicholas A. Reiter and Lori Schillig

The Bridges of Avalon: Science, Spirit, and the Quest for Unity is more than just another attempt to join the worlds of scientific objectivity and human spirituality. It is also a chronicle of truth-seeking; a story of two everyday people whose lives were touched by the hand of an invisible presence, and who followed the path that beckoned in its wake. Two paths became one; a path of friendship, research, and ever growing understanding as Nick Reiter and Lori Schillig formed The Avalon Foundation in 1996. Now for the first time in print, Nick and Lori present their experiences and discoveries in the realms of alien abductions, psychic research, energy healing, and paranormal investigation. The tales herein will touch any who have experienced first-hand "the mysterious" in their life, and bring fresh thought and speculation to those who have studied these topics in a scholarly way. Whether you are a researcher, spiritual seeker, student, or just another wonderfully everyday person who has dared to dream and ponder that which lies "beyond", the bridges of Avalon await your footsteps!

Book Review:

This book is broken up into 4 parts. Bridge of the Visitors, Bridge of Healing, Bridge of the Mystic and Bridge of Spirits. Each section has other little sections in it relating to paranormal topics. Abduction, ghosts, NDE's, ESP, etc. I found this book to be completely impartial. A lot of books in this genre tend to reflect the authors beliefs and are sometimes not impartial. Reading this book was very refreshing, I haven't read another book like it. Interesting from beginning to end with no boring parts in between! People new to paranormal topics as well as seasoned readers will enjoy reading this book.

*Michigan Ghost Stories*

Kat and Bev, authors of the upcoming Michigan haunted travel guide, "Haunted Travels of the Michigan Vacation Guide" will be haunting us with local Michigan ghost stories! This is not for the faint of heart, and these are stories you WON'T want to miss!

About the ghost story tellers, Kathleen (Kat) Tedsen and Beverlee (Bev) Rydel:

Prior to beginning TR Desktop Publishing in 1991, Kat had over 10 years' experience in writing, media production, training and management. She directed programs for Fortune 500 clients, including General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Harley Davidson and Kelly Services.

Bev carries more than 20 years' experience in management, training and public speaking. During that period, she served in a senior-management capacity for major financial institutions in the area of Human Resources. About the "Haunted Travels" book (from the authors prospective)

Researching thousands of lodgings across our state, we have met many reputable people who told us about experiences so powerful they have become true believers in ghosts and demons. These individuals recounted fascinating stories and identified locations they sincerely believe to be haunted. Are they simply stories, urban legends, folklore or fact? That's what we'll be investigating and writing about in the "Haunted Travels" book.

"Haunted Travels" will target Michigan's bed and breakfasts, restaurants and historic sites with a strong reputation of paranormal activity. The reader will join us along with some of Michigan's best paranormal groups as we go on actual investigations. They will meet the investigators and enter into the stories and history of each location as we reveal the haunted facts ... with a skeptic's eye.

Though the book will contain numerous photographs of the investigations, to maximize the readers' experience, it will also be web interactive. On the web, they will be able to see complete photographic coverage, hear audio and see video evidence collected as they read along. We'll also bring them behind the scenes of a typical investigation so they'll get a real sense of what happens.

TR Desktop Publishing is working with several paranormal groups conducting investigations in and around Michigan. We are looking forward to this new adventure!

Blackhawk Bar & Grill & Stagecoach Barn

8940 N 32nd St Richland, MI 49083

http://www.blackhawkgrill.com/index.html

The Blackhawk Bar &Grill/Stagecoach Barn has a long history of paranormal activity. No theatrics, just pure ghostly fun! The Blackhawk Grill is known for flavorful food and fresh drinks, infact the Blackhawk will be creating a special menu just for our Haunting Experience event and will feature an open bar. It is sure to be full of good food and spirits (drinks as well as residents!)

A little History and Information on the Blackhawk Bar and Grill/StageCoach Barn: Before settlers came to Richland, Pottawatomie Indians lived on the eastern edge of Gull Prairie, and two major Indian trails traversed the prairie past the present day Blackhawk Bar & Grill. In the parking lot you will find one of the Indian burial mounds that has survived to this day.

Colonel Isaac Barnes first settled the Richland area in 1830; he constructed a crude log cabin a the site of the present day Blackhawk Bar & Grill and Surveyed a 2,000 acre parcel that became known as Gull Prairie. Col. Barnes' dream was to build a city on the property and call in Geloster in honor of his three sons: George, Carlos, and Lester. Soon the log cabin became a trading post for Indians coming south to trade furs.

Over the years, Col. Barnes served as a justice of the peace, a probate judge, a postmaster (according to some reports Geloster was the first post office in Kalamazoo County) and the first supervisor of Richland. In the early 1830's, Col. Barnes raised a battalion of volunteers to fight in the Blackhawk wars, training and drilling the unit on the present site of the Blackhawk Bar & Grill. Despite these accomplishments, Barnes was disappointed that Geloster did not develop into a community, and he moved to Allegan County in 1841.

Over the years, the farm founded by Col. Barnes prospered and the log cabin became a beautiful multi-storied dwelling with porches, large fireplaces, and a fine barn. At various times the home was known as the Old Stagecoach Stop (for the line running between Detroit and Chicago), the Old Tavern Farm and Gull Corners (now known as Richland) Post Office.

The home was owned by various families down through the years, including the Pecks, the Hoggs, and the Vanderlics, and was the scene of many interesting events, including weddings, reunions, and an early meeting of the Michigan Chapter of the Odd Fellows Society. There are even rumors of a friendly ghost that likes to sit by the fireplace on the upper floor of the building.

As originally built, the house faced Territorial Road, an old Indian trail and a major link between Detroit and Chicago (now C Avenue, a quiet country road), but in the 1930's the house was rotated 90 degrees to face M-89, which had become the dominate route of travel.

In the early 1970's the home burned down, but was purchased and rebuilt by Alice Tigchelaar to resemble the original beautiful and historical home. Alice and her successor successfully operated the Stagecoach Inn, which included the famous Colonel Barnes Room and the Silver Dollar Bar, for over 30 years, but the property fell on hard times in early 2001 and was closed.

Kelknight purchased the home and barn in 2003, and gave it new life as the Blackhawk Bar & Grill and the Stagecoach Barn. We hope to provide you with excellent food, fine drink, and warm hospitality in keeping with the long tradition of the Stagecoach Inn/Blackhawk Bar & Grill.
